Description

Sangarida La Yegua 2022 is one of the most unique and expressive whites from Sangarida, the Bierzo project of brothers Robustiano and Baldomero Fariña (Attis Bodega y Viñedos). Its name pays tribute to the Silla de la Yegua, the geographical feature that crowns and provides shade to the vineyards from which this wine comes, on the slopes of the Montes Aquilianos.

Made with an equal blend of 50% Godello and 50% Doña Blanca, the two main indigenous white varieties of Bierzo. The Godello comes from two plots in the villages of Campo (550m) and San Lorenzo del Bierzo (650m) — the first marked by freshness, the second more powerful —, both organically farmed. The Doña Blanca comes from the same 4 century-old vines planted between 1901 and 1910 that feature in other wines from the winery: La Calleja, Lombano, Las Tablas and El Corzo, co-planted with Mencía. The result is the perfect complement between aromatics and acidity.

The production is completely artisanal: hand-harvesting, natural and spontaneous fermentation in new and semi-new 228-liter French oak and acacia barrels. The wine is aged in the same barrels for 12 months on the fine lees with periodic batonnages that provide texture, volume, and complexity without losing freshness.

Of bright and expressive yellow color. On the nose, intense, fresh, and very elegant: white fruit and citrus dominate, accompanied by spicy notes and subtle touches of well-integrated wood. On the palate it is dense and vibrant, with its fresh aromas and a great final acidity that makes it very gastronomic. Harmony, freshness, and elegance in an original Bierzo white.

Serving temperature: 9-11°C. Ideal for appetizers, rice dishes, soft and cured cheeses, fish, and seafood.
