The robust aromas of rich wine and sweet grapes intermingle with the typical meatiness of Mortlach.
It is a dark and richly layered whiskey, with an intense, lively and sweetly fruity flavor, resplendent due to the depth of the spiced ginger, which it takes from the original partial maturation in Virgin Oak wine barrels.
According to legend, on a fateful night, the moon in the Mortlach sky turned as red as blood, producing a mysterious alchemy. The 'Beast of Dufftown,' a mythical creature, was transformed by the moon's radiance and, drawn by its mesmerizing crimson orb, ascended into the night sky. The influence of that blood moon reached the stills of the Mortlach distillery, and its seductive ruby-red richness and dark complexity transformed the whisky into a singular spirit. Nestled in a dark and historic valley, the Mortlach distillery has long attracted the curious, due to its profound and magnetic character, and an aura of its own that seems to emanate from its hallowed doors. Here, even the way things are done is different: the whisky is distilled 2.81 times in six stills arranged in a pattern found nowhere else.
