La denominación de origen Bordeaux o Bordeaux générique ("Burdeos genérico") es la más importante y más vendida de todas las AOC de la zona de Burdeos. El resto de las AOC de la región de Burdeos, incluyendo las más prestigiosas, tienen autorizado producir bajo esta AOC. Las normas de calidad y especificaciones de esta AOC se elaboran por el instituto INAO.

La Denominación de Origen Controlada (AOC) apareció en Francia a mediados de los años 30. Su objetivo era luchar contra el fraude y proteger el nombre del vino, sus características y las especificidades vinculadas a un terruño definido.

The A.O.C. Bordeaux or Bordeaux générique ("generic Bordeaux") is the most important and best-selling of all the A.O.C.s in the Bordeaux area. All the other A.O.C.s of the Bordeaux region, including the most prestigious, are authorised to produce under this A.O.C. The quality rules and specifications of this A.O.C. are drawn up by the INAO.

The Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée (A.O.C.) appeared in France in the mid-1930s. Its aim was to fight fraud and protect the name of the wine, its characteristics and the specific features linked to a defined terroir.
